Explosions in the Sky - 'The Rescue

Vinyl LP pressing. In 2005, after touring the world for over a year in support of The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place and scoring the major motion picture Friday Night Lights, Explosions in the Sky took a year off to physically, emotionally, and creatively recharge.

During this period, the band decided to create an album using a completely different approach. Quickly and loosely. They composed, rehearsed, recorded, and mixed an entirely new song each day for eight consecutive days. The rules were simple and strict. Each song had to be completed from start to finish in one day and could not be revisited afterward.

The band produced, recorded, and mixed everything themselves in their own homes without outside assistance or interference. Despite the rigid parameters, the resulting album carried a lightness and unruliness that contrasted with their earlier work while maintaining the emotional resonance that had already become a defining part of their sound.

The Rescue - Anniversary Edition has been remastered from the original 24-bit stereo mixes by Heba Kadry at Timeless Mastering. Vinyl lacquers were cut by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Service. The record was pressed on audiophile-quality 100% virgin vinyl at Record Technology Inc. and packaged in a full-color jacket with a heavyweight inner sleeve featuring the handwritten story of The Rescue as told by the band upon its completion in 2005.

This is the long-overdue definitive presentation of a rare but essential piece of Explosions in the Sky’s history.
